Strong earthquake triggers tsunami warning in Vanuatu

A 7.2-degree earthquake triggered a tsunami warning in a region near Vanuatu in southern Pacific today and was cancelled after a few hours. The quake has its epicenter 36 kilometers below the surface and 244 kilometers northwest of Espiritu Santo island. It has not been felt at the archipelago, the local police and the fire station said, while the tsunami warning issued for Vanuatu, Solomon Islands and New Caledonia was cancelled.
