Taiwan’s CPC and China’s Sinopec, both controlled by local governments, said on Thursday they have agreed to jointly explore a gas block off northern Australia, whose reserves may reach 390 billion cubic metres of gas. This is the second time the companies have tied up to explore overseas energy blocks, amid rapidly improving ties between China and Taiwan. No details on the amount of investments or other financial information were released in the statement posted on Sinopec’s website announcing the deal.
