Australia's Lihir Gold said on Monday its chief executive Arthur Hood stepped down with immediate effect. The company has not yet decided who will succeed the resigning executive. The miner also announced it has received contact from potential bidders for its controversial Ballarat project in Australia. It is rumoured the departure of mr. Hood is related to the underground mine's performance. Bought in 2006, the deposit did not go well and had lower output than the initial 100,000 ounce-per-year forecast.
