Two workers died at an accident in a gold mine in Guyana, after a sand pit they were excavating collapsed. The project is being developed near the southwestern border with Brazil, but no information on the owning company's name and/or the city where it happened was given. According to Guyana's Gold and Diamond Miners Association, the pit was 23 meters deep, despite rules limiting them to 12 meters.
