The Brazilian Aluminum Association (Abal) said today Brazilian primary aluminum output fell 9% in August when compared to the same month in 2008 to 129,400 tonnes. The largest cuts came from plants owned by Alcoa (down 11.9% from 31,200 to 27,500 tonnes) and Novelis (down 6.6% from 9,100 to 8,500 tonnes). The association forecasts for 2009 a 7.1% drop in output to 1.54 million tonnes.
