ArcelorMittal is developing a scoping study to a new expansion for its Mont-Wright iron ore mine in northern Quebec, boosting annual production by 25% to 30 million tonnes. The steelmaking giant said several development options are being considered and "further expansions beyond that currently under implementation are being investigated".
Last year, ArcelorMittal announced a US$ 2.1-billion expansion of the Mont-Wright mine that would increase production from 14 to 24 million tonnes per annum by 2013. No details were available about the potential timing of the new expansion or its potential price tag.
