Brazilian steelmaker CSN said it expects the steel market to warm from the second half of 2012, after a drop in its sales in the first half of the year. In a conference call with analysts on Wednesday, commercial director Luiz Fernando Martinez said the company has been affected by high steel imports and expects to benefit from lower coal prices.
Martinez also said the new measures announced by the Brazilian government will help in the recovery of the steel sector and that iron ore prices are nearing a bottom mark.
