Korean steelmaker Posco has reportedly secured rights for a 15% stake in a Canadian iron ore mine operated by ArcelorMittal, sources close to the deal told British newspaper “Financial Times”. The deal is worth more than US$ 1 billion and is a further step by Posco towards the diversification of its portfolio. The Korean group has made investments in Australia, Brazil, Canada and Africa as it works to boost its self-sufficiency in raw materials to 50% by 2014, from the current 34%.
