Platinum prices keep rallying in the market amid news of clashes between South African police and striking miners in companies such as Lonmin and Anglo American. Spot platinum rose by 2.5% to US$ 1,639.49 an ounce early in the morning, the highest level in five months and the biggest one-day percentage gain in about a month. The price has risen by nearly 20% since a strike at number three producer Lonmin turned violent last month, leaving 44 dead and dozens injured in clashes between police and striking workers.
