Two foreign companies will invest US$ 1.7 billion to boost output in two flagship oil fields in Ecuador. Energy Minister Wilson Pastor told a TV station that U.S. Schlumberg and Argentina’s Tecnopetrol will form joint ventures with local oil developer Sertecpet to develop the Shushufindi and Libertador fields in the Ecuadorian Amazon jungle, boosting the country’s output by 40,000 barrels a day. Currently, the South American nation produces 504,000 barrels of oil a day.
