Ecuador is bound to receive US$ 7 billion in investments at gold and copper mining projects in the next seven years, as the South American country tries to diversify its oil-dependent economy by encouraging mining. Natural Resources Minister Wilson Pastor said five projects will be signed in the next few months. Some of the mining companies involved include gold giant Kinross, Canadian junior Ecuacorriente and U.S.-based International Resources.
Two other contracts are also slated to be signed next year due to unfinished exploration stages that will be concluded late 2011.
