The recent discovery of a neodymum deposit in Brazil’s Bahia state, made by newcomer miner WMR and published by Portal do Geólogo, unveils an interesting fact about Brazil’s mining scenario nowadays: since last year, the country’s National Department for Mineral Production (DNPM) received more applications to research for rare earth metals then between the 1940s and 2010.
Since 1940 the authority received 214 applications. In 2011 alone there were 106 requests while a further 11 were filed in the first three months of 2012.
