Anglo American raised costs at the Minas-Rio iron ore project in southeastern Brazil for about US$ 5.8 billion, up 25% from the previous estimate and more than double the figure planned when the company agreed to buy its largest development. The project is facing issues such as delays on irregular geology and rising costs for infrastructure works. Anglo bought the project in 2008 from Brazilian miner MMX.
